The origins of Stintino date back to 1885, with the settling of 45 families, mostly bound to the fishing and coming from Asinara island. Before the territory of the Nurra of Sassari was populated by shepherds and farmers. They lived in some livestock's shelters, named "li cuili". The village of Stintino, in the commune of Sassari, become an autonomous commune in the 1988. There are several beaches in Stintino area, on both east and west sides of the "finger" that extends towards the islands Isola Piana and Asinara. Among them are: Pelosa and the Pelosetta, the Saline, the Coscia di Donna and Punta d' Elice beaches. To reach Stintino with a car is quite easy. Alghero Fertilia is the nearest airport with lots of national and international connections. Porto Torres is the nearest port with ferries connection from Sardinia to Italy mainland and some connections to France as well.
