Kekova - TURKEY

Kekova island is located between Kas and Derme. In fact, Kekova is really a group of little islands and bays. The maze of islands you can see around the bay is studded with ruins and sarcophagi. At Kekova, you can admire the Lycean tombs which are halfway underwater. There are many ruins that date back to the 4th century B.C. (very original warrior's coffins from the Lycian era). One of the islands contains the ruins of fort Kalakoi. If you climb up to the top, you'll get a wonderful view of the entire region. The road that takes you there is bordered with little houses and shops where you might want to stop and taste delicious Turkish pastries and have a cup of tea. The water is warm and marine life is interesting. Nearby, the cove of Gokoya is deserted today and you can swim in the cool of the large cave. This is a superb area to windsurf during the mornings or to explore by canoe.
