Kalkan is an idyllic fishing village with marina. It was devastated by the same earthquake as Fethye but the government decided not to repair it and built a new town nearby. In the 1980's much of the old town was purchased and privately restored. The beach is a small strip on the other side of the bay. The cobbled streets have a charm of their own and it is lovely to see an area so characteristic and traditionally Turkish. It offers a delightful blend of eating, drinking and shopping and is completely pedestrianised at night as the cafes and laughter spill onto the streets creating a wonderfully warm and enjoyable atmosphere. Kalamar Bay is only 5 minutes from here, Kaputas Beach 10 minutes and the next resort - Kas 25 minutes away. The ancient sites of Patara, Xanthos and Letoon can be visited by road from this pretty harbour.
