Marmaris is one of the most important yachting centers in Turkey and it is good embarking point. Marmaris's history stretches as far back as 3400 B.C. The first settlers to this region were named the Caria. Losing nothing in its natural appareance, today Marmaris has grown into a touristic paradise, with its center, suburbs and surroundings, the resort is literally alive 24 hours of the day. Although spread out in recent years, the old town retains its charm with small winding streets and thriving markets overlooked by the castle. There are restaurants and nightlife to suit all tastes, traditional tavernas to techno discos in the modern tourist hotels along the beachfront. The cities and famous sites are accesible via local bus (Dolmus) of which most are possible to reach within a day. Rhodes can be visited by hydrofoil and takes only a 45 minutes to come there. Dalaman airport is 1 hour away from Marmaris.
