Puerto de la Estaca - SPAIN

Arriving yachts should report to the port office on the dock (VHF Ch 16, Tel. 922 550903). A long wharf protects the bay, but yachts usually stay at anchor, although it is possible to come alongside the wharf inshore of where the ferry docks. The ferry area must be kept clear and the dock attendant will advise when the next ferry is due. The inner quay is usually available and is preferable to anchoring as the holding ground is poor. Protection in the port is generally good but in July and August a strong local wind, the Levante, sometimes rolls down the hills into the harbour, pushing boats against the wharf. The harbour is open to the south, and if the wind is from this direction, local boats usually tuck into the bay at Tijimiraque a few miles south.
Facilities in Estaca are very basic, although yachts are welcome. The island capital, Valverde, is 10 km inland from the port.
